One of a university’s basic functions is to provide students with
training based on knowledge generated from research and
scientific advances in various fields of expertise. The concept
of training, however, is a dynamic one which must evolve and
adjust itself to the cultural and social changes of the society
in which the university is embedded and of which it should be a
mainstay.
The Vice-Rector for Teaching and Academic Policy hopes the 1st
UNIVEST International Conference will promote debate about
how we at the university must work in this new framework of the
European Higher Education Area to prepare competent citizens who
are capable of responding to new perspectives and challenges in
society. What is more, in a European Union with the free
movement of persons, it is necessary to create common areas from
which to identify joint strategic plans to achieve
interuniversity student mobility objectives, which is why the
Conference is global and plural in spirit.
Issues such as teaching, learner self-management,
student-centred instructional planning or student participation
in university life, among others, will be the common threads
along which contributions are made and different points of view
shared during this conference. Those perspectives will lead to
the model of teaching within the EHEA framework that will make
the UdG a competitive university and a point of reference in
Europe, due to the quality of its studies and to the
competencies achieved by its students, and placing it among the
first choices of European students when they consider their
university training.
Listening to diverging opinions and opening up to different
positions on the topic will be an essential part of the process.
A new conference format has been established for that reason: a
moderator will direct debate between experts and professors,
students, university managers, various social actors, etc., with
the aim of leading the discussion so that it is beneficial and
rewarding for all.
The final aim of the conference is to contribute positively to the
changes that must be made at the University to prepare a new generation
of even more competent professionals in Catalan, Spanish and
European society. We hope to achieve it with the participation
of everyone.
